It is especially gratifying to be able to accompany a profoundly influential project like the MuseumsQuartier from the planning phase and the decision to build in 1996 to the opening phase in 2001 and its subsequent successful operation. The study we are introducing today demonstrates that the concept of the MuseumsQuartier has been successfully realized. As a cultural district, it has been able to stabilize the high visitor numbers of the first year of full operation.
As a living space, it is an urban recreation center for the Viennese and for the many visitors to Vienna offering high quality culture and entertainment and an attractive selection of eating and drinking establishments. Contemporary artists and people engaged in the cultural sector find opportunities for production and presentation in quartier21. Federal Minister Gehrer drew this conclusion today at a press conference on the occasion of the three-year existence of the MuseumsQuartier Wien. |

The MuseumsQuartier is being created in a revitalized grouping of baroque royal stables in the center of Vienna. Together with the Hofburg, the Neue Burg, and the Museums of Art History and Natural History, the area represents a historically unique force field of Austrian identity. |
